Smoke-Free Campus Project Discussed with Pilot Faculties as Part of the 2026 Year of Independence

Within the scope of the “2026 Year of Independence” initiatives carried out by the Ondokuz Mayıs University Addiction Prevention, Application and Research Centre (OMÜBAM), a comprehensive evaluation meeting was held with the administration of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Vocational School of Health Services, which were designated as pilot units, as part of the “Smoke-Free Campus Project” aimed at fostering healthy and informed generations.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr Esra Pancar Yüksel, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences; Assoc. Prof. Dr Mahmut Yaran, Vice Dean; Dr Öğr. Üyesi Faruk Tan, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services; Dr Öğr. Üyesi Alaattin Altın, Director of OMÜBAM; Assoc. Prof. Dr Kemal Özcan, Deputy Director of the Centre; and Res. Asst. Dr Muammer Yaman from the Faculty of Architecture, who provided support for the project design and implementation. During the meeting, plans were discussed for the establishment of sports areas around the school to encourage physical activity among students and staff, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle culture, and regulations aimed at limiting tobacco use.

In line with the spirit of the “2026 Year of Independence”, the project aims to create healthy and safe educational environments free from addiction and to ensure the long-term establishment of a smoke-free and active living culture across the university campus.
