History
OMU Faculty of Health Sciences Child Development Department was established with the letter of the Higher Education Board dated 06.04.2020 and numbered 25187.
General Features and Purpose of the Program
The aim of the Child Development Department is to train Child Developers who provide services to children, families, educators and the society by supporting all developmental and skill areas by evaluating mental, language, motor, social and emotional developments and self care skills of children between the ages of 0-18 who are normally developing, who have disabilities, who are in need of protection, who are working, living as refugees, who are pushed to crime and hospitalized children. Graduates of this program work as Child Development Specialists in various private and public institutions. They undertake important tasks such as revealing the development of children who form the basis of the society in different areas and supporting them in every way, guiding families and educators on this issue, making the necessary guidance in order to establish appropriate education programs and raising the awareness of the society. Child Developers play an important role in a modern and conscious society consisting of healthy and successful individuals in every aspect. The increasing diversification of family and child problems reveal the importance of the Child Development field more and more. Students studying in the Child Development program, determine the development levels of children in all developmental areas, prepare programs suitable for their developmental levels, make environmental arrangements suitable for children, follow the development of the child in different areas and make new arrangements, prepare new educational programs for them, and their families. In the field of child development, students graduate with the skills of providing consultancy and cooperation to service providers, institutions and organizations, raising awareness of the society on these issues and coordinate with disciplines related to children and families. In order to graduate from the Child Development Undergraduate Program, it is required to complete 240 ECTS successfully in the courses specified in the program, field application and elective courses. Graduates of the program are given the title of "Child Development Specialist".
Mission
In line with social needs, guided by evidence-based practices, children aged 0-18 (normally developing, with special needs, sick, under the protection of the state, exposed to neglect and / or abuse, whose development is at risk due to biological and / or environmental reasons) and to evaluate their families, to determine their developmental needs and to support them with holistic-oriented intervention approaches, on the basis of professional competencies, scientific and ethical principles. To train well-equipped and qualified child developers to work for the realization of these services, to develop developmental assessment tools, to develop and implement projects for the best benefit of children and families in all segments of society.

To train professionals who can lead families, children and educators with modern education and developmental knowledge level, who can renew and develop themselves in line with the changing and developing needs of the society, and who can communicate creatively and effectively. Graduate Employment Areas
Child developers can work in institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, public and private institutions such as community health centers, hospitals, hospital schools affiliated to the Ministry of Health, child monitoring centers affiliated to the Ministry of Justice, juvenile courts, Ministry of National Education; In the General Directorate of Basic Education, General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services, Guidance and Research Centers, Public Education Centers, Education and Discipline General Assembly, kindergartens, special education and rehabilitation centers, children and youth programs and education on radio and television. They can work as a specialist, consultant, founder, manager, supervisor in children's theaters and children's films, in the preparation of publications such as books, magazines and newspapers for children, in the production of educational toys, in UNICEF, ILO and voluntary organizations, and non-governmental organizations.

Qualification Requirements and Rules
Students who successfully complete all of the compulsory courses, field practices and related elective courses in the program and 240 ECTS in total and reach a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are entitled to successfully graduate from the program.
Program Profile
By integrating the professional knowledge, values and skills of graduates, it aims to become a professional member of the public sector, private sector and non-governmental organizations with the quality of producer, organizer, planner, educator and researcher for various levels of client systems. The education program is completed in 4 years (8 academic semesters). Each academic year consists of 13-16 weeks. Courses are periodic and have no prerequisites. Every academic year, at least one midterm and final exams are held according to the Education and Examination Regulations of Ondokuz Mayıs University. Apart from these applications, techniques such as internship practice, projects, fieldwork, organization visits, research, presentation, homework, etc. are also applied.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Those who have successfully completed the undergraduate program of the Child Development Department can do a master's and / or doctorate degree in the same department, as well as apply to graduate programs in some other fields. Candidates who have completed their undergraduate education can continue their education life in graduate programs provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam, have sufficient English language knowledge and pass the science exam.
Exams, Measurement and Evaluation
The evaluation of theoretical courses is based on the provisions of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Education and Training Examination Regulations. Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam for each course. The contribution of midterm exams to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. The evaluation of applied vocational courses is determined by the lecturer of the course in line with the evaluation criteria (transfer of theoretical knowledge to practice, evaluation of observations and follow-ups, evaluation of student performance in seminars, case presentations and discussions, practice exam, etc.). The application grade is determined over 100 points by the instructor and staff who have made the application.

Program Outcomes
1) Have the basic and updated theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of child development by using the necessary education and training tools and resources.
2) Have the knowledge to evaluate and interpret comparatively the accuracy, reliability and validity of the information gained about child development.
3) Have knowledge of children's development, learning characteristics and difficulties.
4) Use advanced knowledge and skills for interpreting and evaluating evidence-based data in the field of child development, including physical, cognitive, language, social-emotional, sensory development areas, analyzing developmental problems, finding solutions for children with typical and atypical development by observing ethical values, developing suggestions and making teamwork.
5) Have the ability to prepare developmental evaluation and support programs for typical and atypical children with different methods and tools, to provide family counseling and to inform the society in line with the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the field of child development.
6) Have the skills to produce different solutions to problem situations for typical and atypical children with evidence-based approach.
7) Take responsibility in inter-disciplinary studies in the field of child development and fulfill the duties effectively.
8) Use the advanced knowledge acquired in the field of child development, carry out independent studies individually and as a group.
